Why do we need a levy now?
The district’s buildings have aged and are badly in need of massive renovation.
Think of a near-century home — at some point fresh paint and new caulk isn’t enough to keep the house safe, warm, dry and above all functional — that major renovations are required. Otherwise, it loses value.

Wouldn’t routine maintenance resolve questions about the buildings’ conditions?
We’ve relied on basic maintenance and patchwork repairs for too long — most district buildings require complete renovation.
Comprehensive renovation will bring the physical conditions of the building and the learning environment
into the 21st Century — students and teachers have the physical resources they need to succeed both
now and in the future.

What buildings are included?
All buildings are included in the plans — Parkview Early Education Center, Gilles-Sweet Elementary School, Lewis F. Mayer Middle School and Fairview High School.
No additional major renovations or upgrades are expected for 30 or more years, and major maintenance will be avoided for many years.
Buildings will have the flexibility to adapt to changes in enrollment or staffing needs.
All programs — sports, music, art and other extracurricular activities — will benefit from the investments.

Wouldn’t it be better to raze the old buildings and construct new ones?
We achieve the same results for less expense when compared to demolishing the high school and middle school and building from scratch. This is better management of the district’s finances.
So how much will this cost me?
For about 25 cents a day, we can complete the overhaul of all buildings and keep the historic, iconic appearance of the high school.
Our facilities will be brought up to the standards of surrounding communities’ school buildings, yet the property tax rate will be among the lowest in the area.

Why go on the ballot now?
Now is the time to act due to the low interest rates, the district’s excellent bond rating and our solid financial management — waiting will only cost more.
I don’t have kids in the schools. Why should I support the levy?
This is more than just education — it’s investing in the community and property values.
It continues the community improvement that was started with the Gemini Project — it’s the next chapter in Fairview Park’s growth.
